Flights in Tilt, passengers on the ground, websites blocked and above all data theft: hacker attacks on airports are frequent.Today's cyberattacco is only the most recent episode, and arrives in the aftermath of the hacking reported by the St. Petersburg airport, the second largest in Russia. Net of the episodes of technical malfunctions that have occurred over the years, it was a real cyberattacco that at the Malpensa and Linate websites in December 2024. Then only the portals dedicated to the public were affected, without consequences on the regularity of flights.In October 2023, always in Italy, a hacker attack slowed down the sites of the airports of Valle d'Aosta, Calabria and Puglia. On 10 October 2022 Hacker attacks from Russia had made the sites of the major American airports inaccessible to the public, but without hitting the systems for controlling air traffic and internal communications. In 2021 in India a cyberattacco had affected a company supplier for airport software, subtracting the data of 4.5 million passengers. In April 2020, then several attempts were foiled to spread dangerous programs in the computer system of Prague airport. Instead, in the same year, the attack on San Francisco airport was succeeded, and user names and passwords of employees and customers were stolen. Personal data were also the goal of the hacker attack launched in 2020 against Easyjet: it is estimated that the data of nine million customers have been exhibited. Between March and October 2018, hacker attacks at Cathay Airways have exploited the security systems to take possession of the data of over nine million customers. In September of the same year, a similar attack was launched at the British Airways. A mobile app of the Canada Air was still hacked in 2018, exhibiting 20,000 customers. In 2016 and 2017 two IT attacks were conducted against Kiev's Boryspil Airport.The first time the dangerous programs were blocked promptly, while in 2017 attacks with the Goldeneye Ransomware caused problems also in Russia, Spain, Great Britain and France.
