After a cyber attack against an IT service provider, the personal data of 1.5 million Sweden came to the Darknet. The hacker group Datacarry had captured this data in the event of a cyber attack on system provider Miljödata at the end of August.
According to Swedish media, city administrations and private companies were particularly affected. The investigation of the data leak is underway, said prosecutor Sandra Helgadottir."There is currently no evidence that a foreign power is involved."
Swedish media reported that the hackers had previously called for 1.5 Bitcoin (the equivalent of around 150,000 euros) and threatened to publish the data. Now the data has ended up in the Darknet because the ransom was not paid.

Among other things, the data was names, addresses and other contact details. The number of those affected corresponds to almost 15 percent of the Swedish population of 10.6 million citizens.
With the data, phishing attacks can now be started. The incident again shows how important it is to secure online accounts and data.It works best with a password manager and two-factor registrations.
According to the Swedish authority for data protection, at least 164 municipalities and four regional authorities were affected by the cyber attack.According to the public broadcaster SVT, the city of Gothenburg in particular was hit by the hacker attack.Private companies, including the truck farmer Volvo and the airline SAS, were also affected.
