Knivsta one of those affected in the cyberattack - warns of fraud
Now information about thousands of employees at Eltel is located on Darknet after the hacker attack against environmental data.
Username in the leak
Eltel's communications director Alexandra Kärnlund does not want to go into any details but confirms that the company has been exposed:
- We have routines to deal with this that we have followed and we have reported to all the instances it should be reported to.Now we focus on internal work, inform our employees and let the investigation have its way, she says.
In addition to social security numbers and home address, which is usually public information there are sensitive internal information from within Eltel. These include:
Placement on the LAS list
Number of sick days
The employee's department and manager
Employees' Username used to log in to internal systems
That the usernames are out described as seriously:
- When you attack an organization, you often want to know what users there are and what you can enter for valid user information. And if you know which person is behind a username, it is easier to come up with good password guests, says Leif Nixon, IT security expert at Combitech.
"Foreign power acts opportunistic"
As a supplier to, among other things, the Swedish Armed Forces, Eltel's operations are counted as security -sensitive operations, and the company can therefore receive support from the Security Police to reduce the harmful effects. On Säpo's side, you do not want to comment on how to work with the case:
- When it comes to the protection of the affected operations, it is also not something we can go into so as not to expose any vulnerabilities, says Säpo's press secretary Gabriel Wernstedt.
He mentions that foreign power, and here Russia is particularly active according to Säpo, has the habit of exploiting data leaks:
- It can be anything from cyber attacks, recruitment of agents, refugee espionage or theft of knowledge and technology to influence. We also see that foreign power acts opportunistically and exploits occasions that are given.
Both the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration have declined to comment on the environmental backers.
